There are many subtle factors involved in getting pregnant and the journey focuses mainly on the clinical aspect of your reproductive organs and hormones. However, one thing that is often overlooked is your stress levels and how they can make it harder for you to conceive.
We often think of stress as just something we have to put up with in life, such as dealing with day-to-day issues of juggling work, family and personal life. But did you know your body can experience stress in many other ways too?
💮 From your emotional and mental health
💮 From unbalanced hormones
💮 From unresolved emotions
💮 From being underweight or overweight
💮 From not getting enough sleep
💮 From poor lifestyle choices
💮 From lack of exercise to pushing yourself too hard
💮 From restrictive diets to overeating
💮 From physical health issues to pain and inflammation
💮 From your gut health
Then there’s the stress involved in trying to get pregnant!
So while your mind may be solely focused on becoming a mum, your body may have other priorities.
When you are stressed, your body kicks into the flight or fight response to help you cope with the perceived threat at hand.
Dealing with stress soars to the top of your body’s priority list because it fears for your very survival.
While in stress mode, functions such as reproduction, digestion and immunity are no longer a priority and go on the “backburner” until your body and mind perceive you to be safe again. Your hormones switch from reproduction to survival.
Your body can’t distinguish between real or imagined threats so as the stress continues, so too does the disruption to your body, your hormones, and your health.
In essence, your body and brain halt procreation in favour of remaining alive.
