Do the dark, chilly winter months get you down? Or do you feel low and depressed with motivation for very little at all?
If so, you are not alone as the seasonal change can affect us all to varying levels with many of us just wanting to hibernate under the bedcovers until springtime.
For many of the people I meet in my practice, it can cause huge distress and the impact on their work, with friends and family can be very upsetting.
The good news is that whether your winter blues are mild or more serious as with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), Homeopathy provides a safe and natural way to boost your spirits, lift your moods and help you feel brighter without unpleasant side effects.
SAD is a type of recurring winter depression that affects people each year between September and April, in particular during December, January and February. The lack of sunlight and shortening of daylight hours are the primary known factors of SAD. For many people SAD is a seriously disabling illness, preventing them from functioning normally without medical treatment such as antidepressants. For others, it is a mild but debilitating condition causing discomfort and is often referred to as winter blues.
Homeopathy takes an individualist approach to SAD and during our consultation, we are keen to understand each person’s unique experience. Based on the information obtained, a personalised prescription is given and no two people would necessarily receive the same homeopathic remedies. The changes that follow can be quite dramatic with clients experiencing a positive lift in their moods, a shift in their outlook and an increase in their energy. As order is restored, other uncomfortable symptoms begin to resolve too. As a natural treatment, it is a welcome relief offering a positive solution so people can get on with enjoying their life.
What else can you do alongside homeopathy? Many people like to use light therapy lamps or a SAD light therapy box. One of the best things you can do is get more natural sunlight. Keep your curtains and blinds open. Make sure you spend time in natural daylight. Take a brisk walk outside. A walk in midday winter sunlight can significantly lift the spirits. Eat a healthy well-balanced diet of fresh foods, complex carbohydrates and fish containing essential fatty acids.
If you feel you are dealing with these or similar symptoms, to ensure a gentle and safe return to health it is recommended that you work with a Professional Homeopath to find a remedy that is specific to your needs.
